Woman from BlizzCon video says : " The boos bothered me more "

A BlizzCon clip caused headlines. The woman shown now says: She did not think so wild, the response of the audience was worse at that time.

In recent weeks, Activision Blizzard revolves a lot about the sexism and discrimination scandal. Especially the developer team of World of Warcraft is in criticism. In addition to hard allegations against the already dismissed Alex Afrasiabi has also achieved a video symbol character: a clip from the BlizzCon 2010, in which a woman asks a question about character design in WOW. The video was viral and serves as a prime example of everything that goes wrong with the developers of WOW.

What is this for a video? The video comes from the Blizzcon 2010. Already at that time there were the "Q & A" panels, where players could ask their questions directly to the developers. Especially the passage with a woman now fell unpleasantly. She praised the developers that there were so many strong women's roles in World of Warcraft, but asked if they all had to look like, as if they have sprung out of a "Victoria's Secret" catalog.

In the first moment, there is audible applause from women in the audience, but then the men's recovery occupies the dominant role. The developers do not take that very seriously and questions "From what catalog should they come?" Shortly thereafter, however, it is still clarified that you understand them and tries to accommodate many different types of women in the game.

Since then, the video has never been taken as evidence that Blizzard rules a "Bro-Culture".

What happened now? The magazine Kotaku has found the woman and led an interview with her. Xantia has spoken a lot about the current and past incidents and delivered some interesting views. She also clearly presents how she has perceived the whole situation at that time.

ES is really strange to see that this whole thing is accompanied by the press, with a question that I have set 11 years ago.

On the question of what she thought when she was seized by the developers as simple, Xantia replied:

I tell you, that's really funny, I did not think so much about it at that time because it is so daunting. You go high, you're nervous because you are filmed, you'll be broadcast live and you are standing in front of an audience of several thousand people. There it is hard to formulate the own thoughts clearly. And I managed to summarize that, came the question and they make a joke from it .

I may like it somehow as I laugh and then make it on it. I thought, okay, I guess I get no chance for a follow-up. Okay, I'll be sent away, wonderful.

She tells that then some women and also some men have come to her and said that they liked their question and considered them as important.

However, what Xantia has remained much stronger in mind, the reaction from the audience was then:

Arlich, the sound of so many guys to be boosted, that has somehow disturbed me much more than to be sent away. You had this initial jubilation of women in the crowd and then a big wave to buh-call .

Despite everything, the Xantia has not stressed as strong as it is designed today.

I did not think so much about it, because there has always been a certain amount of sexism in the Games industry and you just learned to roll with the eyes and ignore it and simply the things [to the games] enjoy that you like.

Xantia has a lot of criticism for ex developers: Criticism expresses Xantia, however, at Greg Street, many as "Ghostcrawlers" know. He used to be an important WOW developer, but now works on the LOL-MMO for Riot. He had expressed himself in a series of tweets to the incident, which regrets the whole subsequently and still explains that that was not so accurately perceived that at the time, as they could see the face of the questioner in the lighting. For this, Xantia said:

_I believe Greg Street knows who I am. Cool. OK. Besides, that was not really an apology, but do what you have to do. Whatever sleeping at night at night.

I stained about it with a friend when I saw it and everything he wrote: 'Oh, I could not see her reaction, I could not see her face' and as he is now disappointed with all that. But Hey, your ears worked wonderfully. Did not you hear the hundred people who have led me? What would have asked you to say, 'Hey, people, that's not really cool?' If you justigh yourself in this extent and explain yourself, then does that sound to be an apology .

Meanwhile, Greg Street also stands in the middle of the allegations, due to some lit chat protocols. More news about the large Activision Blizzard scandal is here: * Wow reacts: All allusions to Alex Afrasiabi were removed * Chris Metzen says Blizzard Scandal: "We have failed" * Players protest against Blizzard, make sit-ins and slaughter NPCs Xantia wanted to work at Blizzard: For many, it is probably difficult to imagine, but despite the incident, Xantia wanted to work at Blizzard and applied in 2012 to the "Strategic Initiative Department", but was rejected in the end. Ultimately, she is well glad: > I was pretty much shaken at that time [about the rejection], but hey, so much luck you can have failure. It feels like I was just like a ball .
